Man, is it beautiful here this fall.  The trees are turning, one species at a time, first the honey locusts going brilliant yellow, then the sugar maples flaming up, then the oaks going pink.  WOW.  Here's some pix from our favorite Lake County forest preserves.

I was quite sure that sugar maples leaves are yellow. They are. But they are, apparently, sometimes red as well.

I'm pretty sure these are sugar maples. They're not soft maples, which have silver-gray leaf-backs and light green, thinnish leaves. They may be hard maples, but sugar maples are hard yuh?

Anyway boy are they red.
